Migrating your emails to Office 365
Posted 16 Dec 2019
If you are currently using Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 to manage your emails, then you may be aware that it will be officially retired by Microsoft from 14 January 2020. This means that whilst the system will remain workable, there will no longer be any patch fixes or security updates which could potentially put your business at risk.
A few weeks ago, we spoke of the importance of maintaining your security defences through Cyber Essentials certification, and when it comes to emails, having a stringent system in place is vital. This is because many security breaches occur through emails; from phishing attacks and identity theft through to virus attacks and targeted data breaches. It is estimated that last year, 124.5 billion business emails were sent and received each day (source: Campaign Monitor), with office workers receiving, on average, 121 emails daily.
As you can imagine, emails will remain a critical part of any business so it’s important that you ensure that your email security is as comprehensive as possible.
I’m using SBS Server 2011 – what should I do?
We know that many businesses may still be using SBS Server 2011 to host your emails. If you’re a small business, you may not have the funds to update your systems, or perhaps you’ve been happy with the service and simply haven’t thought about the need to upgrade.
However, now is the time for you to consider what updates are available. Whilst it may have offered you the features that you needed (such as the ability to share files in a central location, remote working and automatic backup) technology has changed considerably over the past nine years. Therefore, new systems are available which are not only extremely cost-effective, but they can offer more features than ever before, which can improve your productivity and help you work far more efficiently.
What’s more, they will be better placed to help you manage your cyber security.
Why choose Office 365?
We highly recommend Office 365 as a complete resource for your business needs. Not only does it offer the usual Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel but it can manage your emails and provide secure back up through the cloud.

Its robust security features are designed to meet world-class standards including ISO 27001 and can be set up quickly, allowing your IT department to focus on other tasks.
